Abstract

In the digital age, the explosion of customer data (demographics, online behavior, and purchase history) and advanced analytics enable more accurate calculation of customer lifetime value (CLV), a key metric for long-term business success. This conceptual paper aims to explore the concept of CLV, its evolution, importance, models, applications (especially in digital marketing), challenges, and strategic implications in the contemporary digital environment. This paper explores the concept of CLV and its significance in the digital age. CLV is a metric that assists businesses in determining the value of their customers during their entire engagement with the organization. It represents the total expected revenue generated from a customer throughout their lifetime. In the digital age, with large amounts of customer data available to the firm, data analytics plays a crucial role in calculating and utilizing CLV. The paper emphasizes the significance of customers as the lifeblood of any business. A business cannot exist without customers. Building a loyal customer base and maintaining them is crucial for long-term success. The paper reviews relevant literature and case examples (e.g., Amazon, Netflix) to demonstrate CLV’s role in personalization, segmentation, and retention. It concludes that CLV remains essential for data-driven, customercentric strategies, though challenges like data quality and dynamic behavior persist. By leveraging data analytics and technology, companies can accurately calculate CLV and utilize it to drive personalized marketing campaigns, customer segmentation, and retention strategies. As the digital age continues to evolve, CLV will remain a critical tool for businesses to build and maintain a loyal customer base, ultimately contributing to long-term success.
